Private and undisturbed self sufficient camping moments on the NSW darling river

Kallara Station offers a no-frills, fair dinkum camping experience for families and camping enthusiasts, as well as the serious outback traveller. With various secluded camping spots along the riverbank, campers can set up shop, taking advantage of the unique opportunity to enjoy the Australian bush landscape. Owners, Julie and Justin McClure are usually busy looking after their 4-legged flock but will definitely give you a warm welcome to the property and provide you with advice and recommendations on the best things to do while you’re here.

Camping Fees

We charge a small camping ground fee of $5 per person, per night to cover the cost of maintaining our facilities and give guests access to our toilet and showers. For longer stays, please enquire with Justin and Julie for pricing options.

Things you need to know about camping at Kallara Station

While we want you to enjoy your stay at Kallara Station, we have some pointers to guide you to ensure you have a good time and leave the camping sites pristine for the next person.

  • 01 First and foremost – Kallara Station Riverbank is a SELF-SUFFICIENT camping ground – meaning you must bring all essentials with you. This includes drinking water, food, cooking equipment, and heating sources. We do have a septic based system with a hot shower and toilet available for use near the lodge, however, be mindful that it can become busy during peak travel season. Please limit showers to 3 minutes to conserve water.
  • 02 We encourage you to experience everything that our property has to offer. You are more than welcome to collect firewood around the property, but please ensure that you only collect wood that is already dead/fallen.
  • 03 We are in outback NSW so mobile phone reception is spotty at best – please ensure you never explore alone. Always travel in groups if possible, so should something happen, there is someone to assist you.
  • 04 We do have a camp kitchen available for use near the lodge if you would like to cook up a feast but be aware that guests staying in our Fisherman’s Huts and Coolabah Lodge have first preference for use of the facilities.
  • 05 Always leave the campgrounds clean and tidy. We ask that you keep all rubbish sealed overnight to avoid ‘animal’ encounters within your space and make sure you pick up all rubbish and waste and take it with you when you leave. We do have bins onsite to put your rubbish in on your way out of the property.
  • 06 Please ensure all fires are properly extinguished before leaving the camping grounds. We do not want to have lingering embers catch alight and start a bushfire
  • 07 Most of all – HAVE FUN! Kallara Station is a unique opportunity for you to relax and unwind. Take in the scenery, go exploring, try casting a fishing rod, watch for birds and just chill out. Whatever you choose to do, we want you to have the best experience!

I cannot recommend Kallara highly enough what a wonderful station and experience and the hosts are literally the most friendly and lovely people on the planet! Thanks to lovely Julie for popping us on an amazing camping spot and we stayed for nearly 2 weeks! Great facilities to pop in from camp for a shower and heaps to see and the boys working in the shed even helped me to drill a tow bar which was quite a job and they took it off me and said take us 5 minutes!! True outback hospitality on one of Australia’s great Darling River stations. Highly Recommend.

We had an awesome stay at Kallara recently whilst travelling #TheDarlingRiverRun, we stayed in the lodge, and it was perfect for our family of 4. Really a home away from home situated on the banks of the Darling. Kids went fishing, Kayaking and a ride on our bikes. The hosts Jules and Justin couldn’t be more helpful and took time to explain the farming operation and provided a mud map for a self-drive tour, plenty to see on 300,000 acres. Situated on the Western side of the river only a short drive to Tilpa, a nice spot for a cold beer and feed. If you are thinking of heading Down the Darling, I cannot recommend Kallara enough.

A great farm stay with cabins and camping sites both powered and not. You can stay close to the main house or venture along the Darling River and camp in a secluded spot. Very reasonable rates for camping.
